Diverse international wine audience attends TFWA Singapore

My review of TFWA Singapore 2012

I have just returned from a very busy but successful trip to South East Asia. I was privileged to be one of only 5 overseas visitors in attendance to celebrate Duty Free Philippines 25th anniversary hosted with great warmth by Chief Operating Officer Lorenzo (Enchong) Formoso. I really loved the warmth and family atmosphere that was generated at the celebration. It is a country that I will visit again many more times. I then attended the very well organized TFWA AP Singapore show at the Suntec exhibition centre. The organization was again first class and the venue and team at the show need to be congratulated, nothing was a problem. I managed to attend two of the excellent seminars: one on in flight opportunities and another on emerging markets in Asia. The whole scale of growth in Asia Pacific is so impressive as the people of the region begin to travel more and seek out international brands that they had not been previously exposed to.

The new mini wine bottles packaged in a premium gift pack was one of the highlights of the show and a first for travel retail wine. The fact that the gift packs are so light and compact and that they contain so many types of wine from all over the world means that this gift is unique in terms of wine for duty free. I had visitors on the Paul Sapin stand from Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Sweden, India, UAE, Guam, Singapore, Malaysia, Maldives, South Africa, Vietnam, USA, Bangladesh, Macau, Hong Kong, Germany, Qatar, Bahrain, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

I had a visit from Mr. Foster Fu, Vice Manager ACT Beijing Capital Airport Commercial & Trading Department Co Ltd. This gentleman is an old friend of my father Michael Geoghegan as they worked together more than 20 years ago in Hong Kong.

The range of friendly MLP wines were so well received and have now been introduced to many new Asian markets. The reaction to the New “World Wine Cellar“ premium wine gift pack with wines from around the world and a first for wine in travel retail was fantastic. I look forward to visiting this part of the world again soon as it is so refreshing to be in markets that are growing so fast and are so positive about the future.

Barry Global Innovation Ltd.

MLPPaul Sapin

Barry Global Innovation Ltd. is the exclusive global travel retail agent for Paul Sapin, the sole producer of MLPbottles.

The major features of MLP bottles are their long shelf life (at least twice the life of monolayer PET), lightness (three MLP bottles weighs the same as two glass wine bottles) and their unbreakability.

They are also recyclable (both capsule and bottle) and they reduce consumers’ carbon footprint (one can transport 46% more wine in MLP containers than in glass in a 40ft container). Crucially, from a quality viewpoint, the wine does not oxygenate as quickly as other PET formats with the MLP packaging.

Barry Global Innovation

Barry Global Innovation Ltd. is owned and managed by Barry Geoghegan, who has over 20 years’ experience in the wine business. He also has strong family connections to travel retail: his father Michael was one of the key figures in the expansion of Aer Rianta (now the Dublin Airport Authority) overseas in the 1980s, notably into the Middle East.
